App Overview

The app teaches beginners through a ten-step pathway covering tarot history, deck structure, suits, numbers, Court Cards, and the Major Arcana. Each step pairs a short reading lesson with a closed-book quiz, while saved scores, a reset option, and a Website link support the learning flow without requiring an account.

Product Perspective

The course breaks a broad subject into short, approachable lessons that are easy to follow in order. Immediate answer explanations help turn wrong choices into useful learning, and finished quiz scores give learners a clear record of their progress. Restoring unfinished quizzes, adding more card artwork to card-focused lessons, and making the linked website welcoming to Android visitors would round out the experience.

Test Coverage

Area Result What we checked
Beginner pathway Pass Opened the pathway list, reviewed all ten step entries, and confirmed the completed Step 1 score was still shown after reopening the app.
Step 1 - Tarot history Fail Read the lesson, loaded the Three of Swords and Ten of Wands images, completed all 12 questions, and saved a 33% score. Starting its quiz exposed the clipped heading in M-02.
Step 2 - Deck basics Pass Read the 78-card overview and opened its 11-question closed-book quiz.
Step 3 - Suit shortcut Pass Reviewed the four-suit lesson, answered its first quiz question, and checked the incorrect-answer explanation.
Step 4 - Number ladder Pass Read the Ace-to-Ten lesson and checked its quiz entry and answer feedback.
Step 5 - Suit + number builder Pass Reviewed the meaning-building method and opened its closed-book quiz.
Step 6 - Court Card characters Pass Read the Page, Knight, Queen, and King roles and opened the 8-question quiz.
Step 7 - Major Arcana I Pass Reviewed cards 0-7 and opened the 8-question quiz.
Step 8 - Major Arcana II Pass Reviewed cards 8-14 and opened the 7-question quiz.
Step 9 - Major Arcana III Pass Reviewed cards 15-21 and opened the 7-question quiz.
Step 10 - Beginner mixed practice Fail Reviewed the mixed examples and opened the 11-question quiz. Closing the app at question 2 discarded the unfinished attempt, as detailed in M-01.
Reset progress confirmation Pass Opened the confirmation and chose Cancel; the saved Step 1 score stayed intact.
Developer's website Fail Opened the full public page securely and returned to the app. Its store callout is limited to Apple’s platform, as detailed in M-03.

Standard Checks

  • Theme - Suggestion: The reading screens use a consistent dark palette, but there is no Light, Dark, or System choice for longer study sessions (S-04).
  • Status bar - Issue: Starting a quiz can place the quoted quiz page heading partly behind the status bar (M-02).
  • PassBottom gesture area Quiz choices, “Next,” “Finish Level,” and the lesson controls stayed above the gesture bar and could be tapped.
  • PassOrientation Lessons and active quiz questions stayed visible when the phone was turned sideways and then returned to portrait, with the current question preserved.
  • PassReset confirmation “Reset progress” opened a clear confirmation, and choosing “Cancel” kept the saved completion score.

Critical / Core-Feature Issues

None.

Minor Issues

M-01 Closing the app discards an unfinished quiz

Impact: A learner who leaves midway through a longer quiz has to restart that quiz from question 1.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the app and choose Step 10 - Beginner mixed practice.
  2. Read the lesson and tap “I’VE READ THIS - START CLOSED-BOOK QUIZ.”
  3. Answer question 1 and tap “Next” so the quiz shows question 2 of 11.
  4. Close the app fully, then open it again.

Expected: The app should restore Step 10 at question 2, or return to Step 10 with the unfinished attempt available.

Actual: The app opens Step 1 - Tarot history, and reopening the Step 10 quiz starts it again from question 1. Completed quiz scores do persist; the loss is limited to an unfinished attempt.

M-02 Starting a quiz clips the page heading under the status bar

Impact: The top of the main heading is cut off when a learner enters a quiz, making the page look broken at the start of the activity.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the app and choose Step 1 - Tarot history.
  2. Scroll to the end of the lesson.
  3. Tap “I’VE READ THIS - START CLOSED-BOOK QUIZ.”
  4. Look at the top of the quiz page.

Expected: The quiz page heading should sit fully below the system status bar.

Actual: The page moves upward as the quiz opens, cutting off the upper part of the heading directly below the purple status bar.

M-03 The in-app Website link shows an iOS-only store message on Android

Impact: Android learners following the app’s Website link are shown a store callout that does not match the platform they are using.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open the app.
  2. Tap “Website” in the top header.
  3. Wait for the developer's mobile landing page to load, then review the full page.

Expected: The linked page should use platform-neutral wording or provide an Android or Google Play option.

Actual: The page’s only store callout says “Free on the App Store” and provides no Android or Google Play option.

Suggestions

S-01 Add card images to the Major Arcana lessons

On the Major Arcana I-III lesson screens, place a card image beside each Major Arcana name. The pictures already used in the history lesson are helpful, while the lessons devoted to cards 0-21 currently show those cards only as text tiles.

S-02 Reopen the learner’s latest step

On the Beginner pathway at launch, expand the last active or most recently completed step instead of always opening Step 1. Returning learners could continue without searching through the full pathway.

S-03 Use a compact in-course header

On lesson and quiz pages, shrink the large quiz page title and introductory paragraph into a compact header after a step is opened. This would leave more room for lesson text and answer choices.

S-04 Add a theme choice

In the main header, add Light, Dark, and System theme choices for longer reading sessions while keeping the current dark design as the default.

Summary

We wanted to work through the beginner pathway, answer its quizzes, and make sure learning progress survives closing and reopening the app. All ten lessons and quizzes opened, wrong answers gave useful explanations, finished scores were saved, and nothing blocked the course, but unfinished quiz attempts are lost and the quiz heading can be clipped at entry. The course is suitable for continued testing, with quiz recovery, the quiz-start layout, and Android-friendly website wording worth correcting.
